TROWBRIDGE put their blip against Marlborough behind them as they recorded a six-wicket success at Devizes to return to the WEPL Wiltshire summit.

Having tasted their first defeat of the campaign a week prior, Mike Reynolds’ side lost the toss and saw Devizes opt to bat, which suited the Trowbridge skipper - and it wasn’t long before the visitors’ bowling attack were dismantling their hosts.

Reynolds and George Reed both took three wickets as they restricted Devizes to 128 all out in 48 overs.

The reply got off to a shaky start as Tom Oakley returned to the pavilion without a run to his name.

But Brendon Louw top scored with 42* as the visitors reached their target with 21 overs in hand.

“It is good to get back to the top of the league with a good win over Devizes, having lost the week before,” said Reynolds.

“We all said to ourselves that we needed to get back to winning ways and get that positive energy going through the team again.

“We lost it a little bit against Marlborough but I think it gave us a kick in the backside and we need to work for our wins and not take anything for granted.

“I think we showed this week why we are a good side and why we should be considered in a title race.

“We bowled really well up front. George on his debut, he came back from Chippenham, is a great asset for us to have at the club and he bowled really well on a spinners’ wicket.

“It was a good all-round bowling performance and we backed it up with the bat and it was a professional performance.

“Bowling hasn’t really been a problem this season, our only slip up was our batting against Marlborough and this week we made sure we were going to take responsibility and the batsman that were in were selfish and it was very clinical.”

With Marshfield only picking up six points in their defeat to Marlborough, Trowbridge returned to top spot and Reynolds wants to cement that standing when they host Great Bedwyn this weekend.

“We’ve got Great Bedwyn, who we beat earlier this season, so hopefully we can go out and do the same thing again to remain top of the table,” he added.

“The vibe around the group is positive again and we are a tight bunch and we thrive off each other. It is great to be a part of and hopefully we can take that momentum into this weekend.”

Skipper Alex Senneck hit an unbeaten 75 and took three Great Bedwyn wickets as Westbury clinched a 107-run triumph. Richard Mills hi 72 and Jacque Prinsloos also took three wickets for the victors.
