WILTSHIRE will need to take eight wickets on the final day of their match against Wales if they are to claim a first Unicorns Championship win of the summer tomorrow.

Ed Young’s side are still 266 runs in front at South Wilts, although Wales have rallied superbly from a perilous position late on day two.

After declaring their second innings on 283-7 for a lead of 387, Wiltshire got off to a dream start in Wales’ second innings as James Arney removed both openers for ducks in the first over.

However, from there G Ansell (58 not out) and S Roberts (59 not out) have mounted a brave fightback, sharing an unbeaten stand of 120 to get Wales to 121-2 at the close and still in with a good chance of claiming victory themselves.

With Wales resuming their first innings on 105-5 this morning, Arney was able to clean off the tail relatively swiftly and he finished with figures of 4-46 as the visitors were all out for 158.

Wiltshire set about building a sizeable total and opener Patrick Greishaber got things going with a fine knock of 64 before Jake Lintott and Tahir Afridi led a middle order onslaught.

Lintott scored 97 off 90 balls, falling to N Davies (3-64) agonisingly short of his ton, while Afridi was unbeaten on 69 when Young declared on 283-7 and a lead of close to 400.

Arney then seemed to have put Wiltshire on the cusp of victory only for the resilience of Wales’ Ansell and Roberts to leave the match evenly poised heading into the final day.
