I WAS over the moon with our performance against Wales really.

As I have said before, it is a transitional period and there are lots of youngsters in there.

To get them off to a win after only their second game is really exciting.

There were loads of standout performances, but it is difficult because I wouldn’t want to miss anyone really.

Man of the match was Jake Lintott, in both innings he scored runs and took wickets and took a blinding catch as well.

Patrick Grieshaber also got 60-odd in the second innings and Ash Morrison got 46 in the first innings, while Tahir Afridi got 45 and 70 so it was shared around.

The one I was really excited about was James Arney, from Corsham.

He came in, making his debut, and on the second morning took four wickets to sort of blow the Welsh batting order away and then took two wickets in the first over of their second innings.

It was a terrific three days of cricket and a good advert for Minor Counties as well for anyone watching that.

It is difficult because we have had more experienced players playing who are not about now so we have got to rebuild and it is always quite difficult to do that.

I can’t fault anyone who was there, they all batted well and they worked hard and it was a good hard-fought victory.

I was hoping to keep the same team for the next game against Herefordshire in two weeks’ time.

We have spoken about it because the team have worked so hard and we would like to give this team a run of games right through to the end of the season to take the pressure off of them a little bit.

I don’t have an issue bringing some extras in and hopefully we can keep a very young side going and gain some more victories.

If we can get a couple of victories from our last two games then it would have been a decent season.

I know it was all doom and gloom and we were a bit in the doldrums after the third defeat on the trot, but if we can turn the season around with these youngsters then it will be very positive.
