WESTBURY skipper Alex Senneck knows there can be no let-up in his side's rich vein of form if their end-of-season ambitions are to be realised.

Having lowered the colours of title rivals Trowbridge and Purton in recent weeks, the Wellhead Lane men added the scalp of in-form Marlborough to their collection courtesy of a 68-run triumph on Saturday.

That made it six wins on the trot for the west Wiltshire outfit but, with another in-form team, Swindon, and leaders Marshfield on the agenda over the next fortnight, retention of that fine record is a must as the season enters the home straight.

"It was another good win for us but with the run of games we have, we are playing the teams all around us, so there are important weeks to come,'' said Senneck.

"We've had three really positive results but the next couple of weeks are just as important.

"We're at the business end of the season and what happens next is going to shape that season.

"Marshfield are 20 points ahead (at the top) but they're not well ahead and there is a lot to play for.''

Marlborough’s own promotion hopes suffered a dent as their four-match unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of the home side.

Westbury were dismissed for a slightly under par 223 in the 49th over of their innings, Senneck getting 61 and Ben Whiting 38.

George Fox took 4-18 for the visitors but, despite a patient 46 from Harrison Painter, Marlborough’s reply fell 68 runs short.

Richard Oakley took 3-30 and there were two wickets each for Andy Carroll and Richard Mills to end the visitors’ innings at 155 in the final over.

Senneck added: "We were slightly surprised to be asked to bat because it's a good wicket at Westbury and we took pretty good advantage, although we were probably a little short of what we wanted (while batting).

"We gave a couple of wickets away but we bowled well and picked up wickets in clusters.''

Trowbridge's title hopes have hit the buffers after they slipped to their second successive defeat, this time a hefty nine-wicket reverse at Swindon.

Having elected to bat the visitors slumped to 121 all out, with none of their batsmen getting beyond 20.

Cameron Baden's 5-28 and 3-39 from Douglas Baartman did the damage and Swindon were untroubled in the reply, Jonathan Sore (47 not out), Sean Parker (36) and Alex Kill (25 not out) guiding them home.
