TROWBRIDGE skipper Mike Reynolds reckons thinks that his team pumped fresh impetus into their title dreams by superbly vanquishing league leaders Marshfield last weekend.

After suffering back-to-back defeats, including a humiliating nine-wicket loss at Swindon seven days previous, Reynolds’ side could have been forgiven for approaching Saturday’s clash with Marshfield with some trepidation but Trowbridge rose to the occasion and romped to a seven-wicket triumph.

That result may not have elevated the County Ground men from their fifth-placed position in WEPL Wiltshire but Reynolds’ men are now just 18 points off top-spot.

With four weeks of the season remaining, the Trowbridge captain believes that his troops now have every reason to believe that the title remains a realistic possibility.

“I was speaking to James Williams, the Marshfield captain, after the game on Saturday and we both said that all of the top six are in contention to win the league,” said Reynolds.

“I think that Saturday’s win was a big turning point for us and it’s done a lot for our belief that we can win the title.

“A lot of the other teams at the top have still got to play each other and if we win our last four games, then we can finish first.

“Saturday was our most professional performance of the season, especially after losing the previous two weeks.

“The depth of character that we showed after losing so heavily at Swindon the week before was amazing and so was doing it against the team at the top of the league.”

Trowbridge elected to field after winning the toss and their bowling attack had Marshfield in a spin throughout, with wicketkeeper Calum Burnstone managing the visitors’ highest score with a knock of just 19.

Reynolds was one of four players to claim a pair of wickets whilst debutant Chris Dicker also got in on the act as Marshfield were dismissed for just 128 in the 46th over.

Trowbridge’s first three wickets fell for 47 runs but overseas star Brendon Louw steadied the ship with an unbeaten 64 as the hosts reached 133-3 in little more than 27 overs.

Westbury are also in the hunt for the title after their two-wicket win over Swindon.

Alex Senneck’s men posted 231-8 before dismissing their opponents for 168 in little more than 47 overs.
