DWAINE Fielding’s unbeaten century set Corsham on the way to a fourth win on the spin as they thrashed Taunton St Andrews by 183 runs.

Fielding’s knock helped Corsham to a huge total of 316-4 and he was then backed up with the ball by Tom Foley, who took 5-26 to dismantle the Taunton reply for 133.

Ashur Morrison’s men are third in the table with three games to go, although they are 30 points adrift of leaders Frocester and opening batsman Steve Bullen admits they are the underdogs when it comes to the title picture.

“We’ve had a couple of big wins on the bounce and we’re in really good form at the moment,” said Bullen.

“In terms of the table, it’s a bit out of our control but it’s a nice position to be in. It’s a funny game and you never know what’s going to happen.

“We are playing catch-up at the moment but not by much. We need a couple of results to go our way but even if we end up second or third, it’s still been a good season.”

Bullen (62) shared a strong opening stand of 64 with Gabriel Field before skipper Morrison (74) and Fielding (131 not out) went on the offensive to see Corsham past the 300-mark.

The hosts knew they were in control as they took to the field and a brilliant run-out from Morrison to remove Taunton opener James Regan only served to strengthen their position.

Foley then came to the party and his five-wicket haul meant the visitors never looked like chasing down their target as they were all out in the 40th over.

Bullen added: “As a unit, we haven’t fully been firing with the bat this season but in the last few weeks, we’ve been doing a lot better and everyone played really well at the top of the order on Saturday.

“We’ve changed the order and Gabriel has moved up to open and Ashur has told him he trusts him to do a good job, and that really helps a player’s mindset.

“I think we got off to a good start together and then Dwaine and Ashur came in and pushed us on and really finished it off.

“Taunton are always a dangerous side but we felt if we could some early wickets, then we would be in with a good chance and that’s what we did.

“It was an unbelievable bit of fielding from Ashur to pick up and throw down the stumps to get rid of Regan and that really kicked things off for us.”

Skipper Morrison hailed spinner Foley as he claimed a five-wicket haul, including a triple-wicket maiden.

“He bowled with good flight and guile, with good control, and got the ball in the right areas,” Morrison said.

“They never looked in the game and Tom managed to find the edge on a couple of defensive shots.”

“Tom is probably the unheralded bowler in our attack but he always does his bit and it was really good to see him get five wickets.”
