THE cricket season drew to a close this weekend with all fixtures being affected by dismal weather sweeping across the county.

Despite the rain, Swindon did manage to see some play on Saturday when they faced Calne at the County Ground.

After losing the toss, Andy Staff’s Swindon side were forced to bat and managed to rack up 179-3, with Alex Kill top scoring with just over a half century (57 no).

Marc Williamson (41 no), Dean Williamson (21) Sean Parker (33) and Jonathan Sore (17) added to Kill's score, with Calne’s Joseph Clare was clearly enjoying himself, despite the rain, as he collected three wickets in succession.

With the rain an ever present, the umpire decided to halt proceedings without Staff’s team being able to finish with the bat.

Swindon were subsequently awarded 9 points which was enough for them to seal a sixth place finish.

Purton fared slightly better in the league overall, despite their game against Marshfield being a non-starter, as they claimed fourth spot.

WEPL Wiltshire was won by Westbury who managed a total of 267 points, which was enough to see off Marshfield and Trowbridge who claimed second and third place respectively.

Both Malmesbury and Devizes were unable to beat the drop, with the latter nine points away from Great Bedwyn, who clung on to their WEPL status.

Premier One was hotly contested between a couple of Wiltshire sides as Corsham pipped Potterne to a third place finish.

Bath were outright winners, with the two Taunton based sides, Taunton and Taunton St Andrews, being relegated.

Meanwhile, in the Prem 2 Glos/ Wilts, Freddie Martin’s Lechlade managed to clinch the title with a 32 point margin over second-placed Cheltenham.

Goatacre and Biddestone had slightly different seasons, with the former enjoying a four place finish unlike Biddestone who narrowly avoided the drop.

Goatacre could only claim seven points this weekend as their game was abandoned with 29 overs played on a score of 126-6.

Burbage & Easton Royal did manage to briefly beat the weather away at Cheltenham.

After being made to bat, the visitors set to work with David Cope top scoring and will be frustrated he couldn’t sign off with a half-century as he tallied 49 before the game came to a halt.

Burbage & Easton Royal and Warminster were cut loose from the league.
