WESTBURY made it two wins out of two in WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts last weekend as they dispatched Chippenham in their first home game of the season.

Alex Senneck’s troops had previously kicked off the new season with an away win at Hatherley & Reddings.

This time around they welcomed Chippenham, who lost their first game to Thornbury by 30 runs, with the aim of maintaining a perfect start to the season.

That did not prove to be too difficult as Senneck’s side, who won the toss and elected to bat, sealed a 12-run victory.

Westbury’s Mike Coles, who joined the club this year from Wiltshire rivals Corsham, enjoyed his afternoon as he struck a fine 102 falling to Stan Alsop.

Arran Dickinson and Richard Mills also put in decent knocks, registering 70 and an unbeaten 35 respectively as Westbury closed on 256-4.

Chippenham put in a valiant effort in the reply, with Owen Alsop run out by Senneck for 93 as Westbury claimed the final wicket with three balls and 12 runs to spare.

Despite the final result being closer than he would have liked, Senneck admits he was never concerned about the result.

“We are very pleased to make it two in two. It was a good result against a fairly strong Chippenham side,” said the Westbury skipper.

“We won the toss and decided to have a bit of a bat. We lost a couple of early wickets but we dug in and an excellent partnership from Arran Dickinson and Mike Coles got us to 250, which looks to be the benchmark.

“The most pleasing thing was in the second half of the match, the guys stuck at it and dug in.

“Even though it was touch and go, I felt confident we were going to win the game.”

Westbury will now turn their attention to this weekend’s clash with county rivals Goatacre, who have also made an unbeaten start to the campaign.

“It is an early first verses second clash. We just need to see how it goes and we will have to see what side they put out,” he added. “It will be an interesting battle at their place. We want to win as many games as possible so it will be a good marker for us.

“If we were able to beat an established side like that, it would be fantastic for us.”
