WILTSHIRE boys U11s started their season with a win on Sunday, as they recorded a fine 26-run victory over Somerset.

Batting first, Wiltshire posted a competitive 176-6 with Nicolas Viljoen scoring a brilliant 80, well supported by Matthew Falconer (39).

In reply, Somerset were restricted by the bowlers, who all chipped in. There were two wickets each for Falconer and Charlie Thomlinson as Somerset fell to 150 all out.

Sunday’s match for the U14s against London Schools ended up being cancelled due to rain but Tuesday’s against Gloucestershire did eventually beat the rain in a match reduced to 35 overs per side.

Wiltshire batted first but could only manage 102-9 with Toby Kershaw scoring 27.

Gloucestershire reached their total comfortably for the loss of four wickets.

Monday saw the boys’ U15s match versus London Schools foiled by the weather despite three-quarters of the game being played.

Wiltshire restricted their opponents to 234-6 from their 50 overs with Jack Grant picking up two wickets.

In their chase Wiltshire were struggling at 120-7 when rain won the day.

Tuesday saw the boys U17s ECB one-day campaign get started against Dorset.

Bowling first, Wiltshire did well to restrict Dorset to 182-8 with Akram Ghauri taking 2-20.

The reply was led superbly by captain Will Thomas, who scored 66 not out to lead Wiltshire home to a two-wicket victory.

For the women it was a thrilling weekend as they played on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday’s match was against Cornwall, who batted first and ended on 163 all out with Lois Wright taking 3-23.

In reply, Wiltshire’s chase was led by Melissa Story (47) and Lucy Farrant (40) as Wiltshire ended up levelling Cornwall’s total to record a tie.

Monday’s match was equally exciting against Dorset.

Bowling first again Wiltshire did brilliantly to dismiss Dorset for 85 with Wright taking two along with Katherine Mills and Emily Wakeling.

However, the batting didn’t get going and they fell to 81 all out to end four runs short, Rosie Pembroke scoring 22.
