TROWBRIDGE captain Mike Reynolds led by example last weekend as he claimed seven wickets to seal home victory over Devizes in WEPL Wiltshire.

The visitors won the toss and opted to field and in truth Trowbridge made a pedestrian start with the bat as Tom Weaver, Billy Cookson, Matthew Hopkins and Reynolds were all shown the door by Ben McGowan with only 29 on the board.

When Ryan Salter was bowled by Tom Grant the hosts were reeling at 31-5.

However, a superb performance from John Carroll, who finished with an unbeaten 96, saw Trowbridge close on 245-8.

“The only thing we can complain about is the top order, but it was good to see us with a bit of backbone and resilience,” he said.

“To be 31-5 with the bat and end up with 245 is a remarkable fightback. John was the stand-out performance and he was superb.

“We bat all the way down our line-up and you can tell because he came in at number nine, he is an opening batsman.

“It is difficult with the orders to fit everyone in. He had a very calm tempo at the start but he adapted to the situation perfectly.”

Reynolds put his troops on the front foot from the offset as he claimed all but two of Devizes’ opening seven wickets, while Scott Mitchell claimed the other two.

With the score reading 35-7, the visitors needed something special if they were to mount a charge, but they were unable to as Reynolds (7-20) and Mitchell (3-21) continued to bulldoze their way through the Devizes batting order, who were skittled out for 41 in 19 overs.

“That was our best bowling performance for the past few seasons, we did a fantastic job and everything fell into place,” added the Trowbridge captain. “Seven wickets is a career-best for me, I was very pleased with the way I bowled because I have been struggling to find my rhythm recently.”

Warminster also managed to come away with a victory as they overcame Calne.

Mark Coxon Tenty and skipper Peter Hickerton came up with the goods as they recorded 79 and 75 respectively, firing the visitors to a tally of 241-7 and an 86-run win.
