WESTBURY suffered just a second defeat of the season in Premier Two Glos/Wilts on Saturday when they went down by 71 runs away at county rivals Burbage & Easton Royal.

After losing the toss and being asked to make first use of the ball, it soon became clear that Alex Senneck’s side faced an uphill struggle in the field.

They could only stand and watch as Burbage captain David Cope compiled a mammoth knock of 141 before eventually falling to Richard Mills as his team posted a daunting total of 286-8.

James Hudson led the Westbury attack with figures of 3-40, while skipper Senneck and Mills took two wickets each.

Brannon Varley (71) and Hudson (53) led the visitors’ reply after tea but Westbury lost their last five wickets for 34 runs to fall well short of their target on 215 all out.

There were three wickets apiece for Burbage bowlers James and Oliver Lavis as the Westbury innings subsided in 44 overs.

Westbury had began the day second in the table, only behind unbeaten leaders Cheltenham, but have since dropped to fourth and will be hoping for better fortunes when they entertain Thornbury this weekend.
