POTTERNE'S Neil Clark smashed a superb century as Wiltshire built a strong position on day one of their final Unicorns Championship Western Division match of the season at Bridgnorth CC yesterday.

Number seven Clark hit 124 off 102 balls in just 107 minutes as the visitors amassed 418-7 from their 90 overs, with Shropshire having reached 77-2 in reply by stumps on the opening day.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Wiltshire made a solid start through openers Steve Bullen (75) and Billy Cookson (16), but Cookson's departure precipitated a mini-wobble as Corsham's Ashur Morrison soon followed for a two-ball duck.

Bullen rebuilt with a 97-run partnership with Will Wade (41) before skipper Ed Young (40) and Jake Goodwin (37) took the score on.

Clark then shared a partnership of 167 with Trowbridge's Mike Reynolds, who himself scored an impressive 67 off 39 balls, to take Wiltshire over the 400 mark.

Shropshire's reply started well for the away side as Tahir Afridi struck in the first over to remove opener Joe Carrasco, who was caught by Cookson.

Afridi also had Will Parton caught for 10, with Steve Leach unbeaten on 41 at the close.
