TROWBRIDGE skipper Tom Weaver is confident his side’s hunger for success hasn’t been sated by last season’s league triumph as they embark on their Prem Two Glos/Wilts campaign this summer.

An early indication of the County Ground men’s new lofty heights comes in Saturday’s opener, as they travel to face Corsham, who dropped down from top-flight Premier One last term.

Weaver, though, says his squad are refusing to settle on mere survival as their ambitions for the summer, despite last season’s success.

“We are looking to continue our success of recent years in Premier Two,’’ he said.

“We are a young team who have grown up and learned the game together, therefore we are looking to use our experiences as a team over recent years to get us through situations this year.

“We have sat down as a team to discuss our goals for the season and we would like to be in the hunt come the start of August.

“We are also excited by the challenge and will enjoy the competition that this higher level will offer.’’

All-rounder Harry Veal – a friend of Weaver’s from their days at Beechen Cliff School in Bath – has boosted the Trowbridge squad, while youngster Tom Lloyd has worked his way up through the ranks of the club.

Weaver added: “He (Veal) will add an extra dimension to our bowling attack and looks ready to take the new ball on Saturday, while also adding experience with the bat to our middle order.

“Tom Lloyd is another addition to our team this weekend, a fantastic young fast bowler who has been working with Wiltshire Youth Cricket for a couple of years now.

“He has come up through the club’s youth section and is set to make his first team debut on Saturday.

“The draw couldn’t have worked better for us with Corsham as our initial fixture.

“I don’t believe either club has had an ideal pre-season given the weather over the last month, but the boys are fit and ready to go.’’

Elsewhere, Westbury & District begin their campaign to better last summer’s third-placed finish at home to Lechlade, who were relegated from Premier One last season.
