CRICKET: Corsham still on track for title bid

CORSHAM skipper Pete Turner believes the Premier One title is still within reach after a comfortable 67-run victory over Bristol at Station Road, writes GEORGE FLOOD.

The latest triumph, Corsham’s fifth of the season, leaves them third in the league standings, 40 points adrift of leaders Bridgwater.

“It is still within reach but we have to be realistic as we are still some distance behind”, said Turner.

“We have missed six games because of the recent weather and I said to the players in the pre-match team talk that all we can do is make sure we win the games we have left.”

After losing the toss, Turner’s men batted first and Ashur Morrison’s impressive 78 from 105 deliveries, along with contributions of 45 and 34 from Robin D’Souza and Tom Shaw, helped them to 230-9 after 50 overs.

“Ashur is a good all-rounder and a very promising cricketer,” said Turner. “He was bumped down the order at the last minute and that is his highest score for some time.”

Turner also praised the impressive bowling attack after Morrison, Alex Senneck, Ben Gardner, Thomas Hankins and Tom Bowler all collected two wickets as the visitors were dismissed for 163 after just 39 overs.

“We have a very strong bowling attack and we bowled, caught and fielded very well,’’ he added.

“The most pleasing factor is that we managed to keep the extras down to a minimum as we have been guilty of giving away far too many in the past.”
