A CENTURY from Ryan Higgins helped Chippenham to a thumping win over
Marlborough in their opening game of the season in the Gloucestershire and
Wiltshire Division.
The Zimbabwean international, who was making his league debut for
Chippenham, scored 118 not out. with Tim Rowson (30) and Adam Miles (20)
also making useful contributions.
Clifton Folkes had a dream day with the ball as he dismissed Marlborough's
first four batsmen.
Folkes got one further wicket and Trevor Lloyd claimed three victims as
Chippenham cruised to victory.
Captain Steve Silk said although his team eventually came through, the win
had been far from assured mid-way through the match.
Silk said: "It was a strange game. We lost the toss and got put in on a wet
wicket, a very hard wicket to play on.

"At one point we were down to 50 for four off 25 overs so we were in
trouble.
"But Adam Miles batted very well and we had a 100 partnership between Tim
Rowson and Ryan Higgins.
"Ryan was absolutely superb in very difficult conditions and Tim Rowson's
knock was equally important.
"When we were put into bat we thought 120 or 140 could be a good total, but
to get 195 and for Ryan to open up like he did was a joy to watch."
Silk was quick to praise his bowlers for their performances.
Silk said: "Clifton Folkes is always reliable and he's fit and ready for
this season.
"He had an operation going into last season (to remove cartilage from his
knee) but this year he came flying in, and he seems fitter then I've seen in
a few years.
"Trevor Lloyd bowled especially well on his debut back for the club."
l CHIPPENHAM are through to the next round of the Cockspur Cup after
squeezing past Swindon on Sunday.
Silk's side won by five runs in a game reduced to 20 overs due to the
weather.
