Welcome winning start for Westinghouse
Robbie Penfold

WESTINGHOUSE vice-captain Christian Fry is savouring a winning start to the season after his team edged out Hinton Charterhouse in their away Wiltshire Division on Saturday.

The club have not started the Wiltshire Division campaign well in recent seasons and Fry was delighted to begin positively.

Westinghouse were put into bat and openers Robbie Penfold and Chris Ferris racked up 147 between them, and the away side eventually finished on 192.

Hinton's top order were solid rather than spectacular but Andrew Fussell kept them in contention with a knock of 77.

The lower order struggled to make runs and Westinghouse were fairly comfortable with the last two overs in sight, as their opponents fell 13 runs short of the target.

Fry said: "It was quite an exciting game and it's the first time I can remember we've won a game in the first half of the season.

"It was a good start. To get off to a win was a big improvement on the last few seasons.

"Jon Cleverly was his usual self, he carried on from last season and was bang-on right from the start.

"The young lad Robbie Penfold was promoted up the batting order and scored 75 so that was a brilliant start for him, and Chris Ferris looks like he's back to some of his old form."

Although Westinghouse were fairly comfortable at the end, Fry admitted his side had not always been certain of victory.

Fry said: "Off the first 25 overs they had scored about 60 so that left them 130 to get off 20 overs.

"There was a sticky time when we thought they might get it and panic started to set in but we got over it.

"We were on top in the last three overs and there was no doubt we were going to win."
