WARMINSTER had a happy opening day to the Premier Two season as they cruised
to a routine victory over Bristol at The Pavilion.
Carl Clarke's side won promotion to the league last season and sealed
victory in their first match with eight overs to spare.
Warminster won the toss and put Bristol in to bat and the visitors struggled
to 136, helped by 25 extras from the home bowlers.
But Leigh Beauchamp took a superb 4-24 and Sean Maxwell took 2-20, with John
Powell, Tom Davie and Trevor Fabian all claiming a victim each.
The home team began their innings quickly and Sean Adams (49), Richie
Underdown (37) and Sean Maxwell (33) brought Bristol's total within touching
distance.
Even a middle order collapse could not stop Warminster taking victory with
eight overs remaining as Davie and Clarke got them over the line.

Skipper Clarke said: "The score didn't do us justice. We were 120 for three
but we lost four wickets for no runs and it made the score look a bit more
in their favour. Overall we pretty much dominated the game.
"The bowlers bowled good lines with Leigh Beauchamp and Sean Maxwell being
the pick of the boiwlers.
"Batting-wise Shaun Adams and Richie Underdown did the damage at the top.
"It was a good start to the new season and if we continue like that I think
we'll do okay this year. Looking at how Westbury fared last year I don't
think there's a massive difference."
The captain put himself lower down the batting order than usual but said it
would not be a permanent fixture.
"That was just because I thought I'd give someone else a chance," said
Clarke.
