Smart work settles local derby

A FINE all-round performance from Kegan Smart was the highlight of Bradford 2nd XI's three wicket win in their Division Four local derby match at Trowbridge A.

Trowbridge elected to bat first and Bradford opening bowling Ben Powell caused the early batsman problems, capturing three wickets in his opening spell of seven overs.

Chris Dawson steadied the Trowbridge innings with a patient 49 and steered the home side to a competitive total of 202 for eight.

Smart bowled well for figures of 9-2-20-3 and was backed up by some good fielding.

The Bradford innings got off to a disastrous start, with the first four wickets falling for just 10 runs, before Smart and Sri Lankan Sunanda Kirwan steadied the innings with a partnership of 35 before Kirwan fell for 14.

A partnership of 88 then followed between Smart and Ben Powell which turned the game in Bradford's favour. Smart eventually fell for an excellent 62, after hitting nine fours and two sixes and Powell was then joined at the crease by the dependable Darren Jones and together they carried Bradford to the brink of victory with a partnership of 65, before Jones fell lbw for 31.

Powell then completed the victory with a boundary and finished on 39 not out to complete a good all-round game.
