TROWBRIDGE Town under 13s are celebrating after winning the Wiltshire County
Women's and Girls' Football League under 13s cup final.
Trowbridge finished runners-up to Melksham in the league, but overcame the
champions in a penalty shoot-out in the cup final at Melksham Town.
Trowbridge were very nervous at the start and were punished with an unlucky
early goal from Melksham but the girls kept there heads and equalised with a
fine goal from Chantelle Spong.
By half time Trowbridge were dominating the match and this was rewarded with
a second goal from Chloe Timbrell midway through the second half.
Some fine attacking play from Trowbridge failed to bring another goal due to
the fine saving from the Melksham goalkeeper. Melksham then equalised in the
dying seconds of normal time with a scrappy goal.
Extra-time saw no further goals although Trowbridge were unlucky not to
score - kept out by a fine diving save from the Melksham keeper and they
were denied a penalty when a Melksham defender handled the ball.
