BATH tonight announced that Wales and British Lions star Gavin Henson has signed a one-year extension to his Rec contract.

Henson, 32 and capped 33 times by his country, was man of the match in Sunday's Amlin Challenge Cup quarter final win over Brive and his future has been at the centre of speculation for several weeks.

Earlier this week Lyn Jones, coach of the Welsh region the Dragons, revealed Henson would not be joining the Newport-based side, as had been previously rumoured.

Henson has mainly featured at centre for Bath this season, but his versatility has proved useful to the squad, with him covering four positions including fly-half, outside centre and full-back.

Henson said: “I’m very happy to be staying. This is a top club and I feel excited about what this group of players can achieve.

"It is great to be part of it and I feel proud at the thought of playing more rugby for Bath.”

Head coach Mike Ford added: “Gavin is a real professional. Everything he does is about being as well prepared as possible for every session and match.

"He is experienced, talented and versatile in equal measure, so we are very pleased to have him with us for another year.”
