WESTBURY returned to winning ways as they edged out Frome 2nd at Knott Field.

The home side started the game strongly putting Frome under pressure and forcing a penalty that Jack Brooks narrowly missed.

On the 12-minute mark Westbury crossed for the first score of the match, moving the ball wide to winger Brooks who weaved in and out of the defence and raced under the posts, converting his own try to leave the score at 7-0.

The next 20 minutes was an even affair with neither team taking control of the game and Westbury's nemesis of indiscipline began to arise.

The home team were penalised a number of times and Frome eventually crossed the line through their winger, although the conversion was missed.

The second half began positively for Westbury when fly-half Aaron Vaughan read a Frome pass, intercepted and raced 40 metres to touch down.

Brooks converted as Westbury stretched their lead to 14-5.

Frome though, closed the gap five minutes later with an unconverted try.

Vaughan was shown a yellow card on 68 minutes due to an accumulation of Westbury penalties and Frome kicked one to move within a point.

Despite being a man down though, Westbury remained strong and the backs created space for Simon Rose, returning after just seven weeks from a broken arm, to glide under the posts, Brooks converting.

Frome landed another penalty but were unable to break through again as Westbury, with 18 year old denutant prop Reece Ball outstanding, held out.

l MELKSHAM were 21-17 at Pewsey Vale in Dorset & Wilts One North.

Centres Dave Dyke and Phil Stone scored tries and Simon Liversidge also crossed, fly-half Simon Foster kicking all three conversions.

Bradford on Avon lost 33-0 at Sherborne.
