WARMINSTER got the better of local rivals Westbury for the first time since December 2011 in their bottom-of-the-table battle .

The opening exchanges were played at a frenetic pace as the home side forayed into the Westbury half of the field with strong runs from the McIntyre brothers, Dan and Jack, in the centres.

It was from a turnover that Warminster scored the first of their four tries, the ball being quickly shipped along the hands in the backline and out to left winger James Pinnell on halfway.

His pace took him past defenders for his sixth try in as many games, fly-half Gavin Pratt converting.

Westbury responded well, piling on the pressure and Dan McIntyre was sin-binned for a tip tackle.

The visitors took advantage, scoring their first try and Warminster then lost flanker Luke Windsor to a shoulder injury.

Westbury added a second try as they began to take full control of proceedings and a successful conversion gave them a 12-7 lead at half time.

A dressing-down from coach Dave Coleman initially failed to help the hosts, who shipped a penalty and an converted try to slip 20-7 adrift with 20 minutes remaining.

But Warminster found the extra gear which had been missing for the first 60 minutes and mounted a superb comeback.

Their second try came through Pratt after a break by skipper Dean Priestman.

With ten minutes to go, teh hosts took the lead as substitute Reece Smith broke clear and ran in under the posts, Pratt converting.

Westbury tried to respond but, with just a minute left, Warminster kicked ahead and chased, Jack McIntyre picking up the free ball and running round under the posts to secure the victory and bonus point.
