WARMINSTER’S season came to a dramatic end as they ensured their Dorset and Wilts One South status with the last play of the campaign.

The Folly Lane club hosted Bournemouth 2nds knowing that they required a minimum of two points from the contest to avoid the drop and with the clock on 80 minutes, the hosts were trailing 29-20, having only scored three tries.

Then the ball found its way out to centre Dan McIntyre and he showed great speed and power to touch down the bonus point fourth try. Jason Sprangle added the extras as Warminster secured the losing bonus point and their league survival.

Bournemouth took an early lead at Folly Lane with a converted score, but a long floated pass from fly-half Gavin Pratt found wing Herbeline Biscette to dive over in the corner. Sprangle was unable to add the conversion.

Despite the visitors having a man in the sin-bin, Bournemouth scored their second of the match to make it 12-5.

After the break, wing James Pinnell raced home for his 12th try of the campaign to reduce the arrears to 12-10.

However, a catch-and-drive move from Bournemouth saw them power over for their third of the match, before a Sprangle penalty.

Bournemouth then ran in two quick tries that left Warminster 29-13 down.

But when the south coast side knocked on from the re-start, Warminster secured good scrum ball and it was shipped wide to McIntyre. He scythed his way through the visiting defence to score. Sprangle added the conversion to make it 29-20.

Warminster continued to pile on the pressure on Bournemouth line to grab the try that ensured that Dave Coleman’s men could look forward to another campaign in One South.
