BATH Rugby have confirmed that back-row star Carl Fearns is to leave the club to join French side Lyon this summer.
Fearns made 73 appearances for the West Country side and is renowned for his uncompromising style of play in both attack and defence.
“I've had a fantastic four years at Bath during what has been a great time for the club,” said 26-year-old Fearns.
“Whilst I'm sad to be leaving my team-mates and coaches here, I’m really looking forward to moving with my family to France and continuing my rugby career in a different environment.”
Bath head coach Mike Ford said: “We’re obviously disappointed to let Carl go, but he feels the time is right to make a change, and we respect that.
“He’s a talented and committed player, and I’m sure he’ll be a great success in France.”
Bath, meanwhile, have been strongly linked to strengthening their back-row resources for next term by recruiting Wales number eight Taulupe Faletau.
No announcement has been made by last season's beaten Aviva Premiership finalists regarding Faletau, but it is thought that a deal could be close.
