WARMINSTER began their Dorset and Wilts South campaign by laying their away day demons to rest, seeing off Oakmedians 19-11 at Meyrick Park.

Despite arriving late in Bournemouth, the amber and blues hit the ground running, gaining early dominance at the scrum.

With the set piece solid, the Warminster backline were able to implement Mosi Naisaramki’s new ball in-hand philosophy.

However it was 18-year-old centre Jack McIntyre who opened the Warminster account with a typically strong run, Jason Sprangle adding the extras.

A second try soon arrived, once again through McIntyre, as he showed great strength in handing off his opposite numbers to go over the whitewash. Sprangle slotted the simple conversion.

A third try was added from a Warminster catch and drive at the lineout. A well organised maul saw number eight Dean Priestman break through a gap and wobble in from 25 metres. Sprangle could not add the conversion.

Warminster were then guilty of not building on the excellent start as they started to give away some cheap penalties. Two of these the Oakmedians scrum half slotted over the posts to make the score 19-6 at half time.

The second half was a somewhat scrappy affair with numerous errors from both sides.

The home side reduced the deficit even further with a their centre touching down a try of their own from a well executed lineout. The conversion was missed leaving the score at 11-19.

Despite creating chances to add more to the score, it remained at 11-19 at the final whistle.
