BRADFORD on Avon head coach Dave George is convinced his side will become more than Southern Counties South's great entertainers if they maintain the commitment and spirit shown in the opening two weeks of the season.

The Ashley Lane men were condemned to a second successive league defeat as Midsomer Norton ran out 35-26 winners in Somerset, but ran in another four tries following the previous week's points bonanza in the home defeat by Dorset Dockers.

George said: "I think we gave them (Norton) a bit of a shock - it was a good game.

"They dominated up front and owned us a bit in the scrum but were very dangerous out wide.

"We defended really well. We've got Devizes at home (on Saturday) and they will be really strong but if we show the same spirit and application that we have, I think we can go well.''

Centre Josh Felix, scrum-half Ross Dewar and replacement Pete Kerr scored tries, as did centre Leo Robertson, who ran the length of the field to touch down, Felix adding three conversions.

  • BRADFORD are hosting Return to Rugby training sessions to encourage ex-players inspired by the Rugby World Cup to make a comeback.

The club has been selected as one of 50 in England to take part in the RFU campaign to increase participation during and after the tournament.

They will run a series of tailor-made sessions, the first of which starts tonight at the club, for seven weeks and Bradford academy director Clive Roberts said: “(We) are looking forward to welcoming players back into the game, no matter what their experience levels are, back to the game in a friendly and relaxed environment.”

The Return to Rugby training sessions campaign is being fronted by ex-England captain Lewis Moody - Bradford's director of rugby.
