WESTBURY responded to their opening week loss to Avonvale by romping past Bradford on Avon 2nd in Dorset & Wilts Two North on Saturday.

The home side made a good start when they took the ball against the head at a scrum and debutant Dave Whittingham in the centre changed the angle, attacked the short side and cleverly offloaded to skipper Lee Moore, who touched down.

Five minutes later, fly-half Matt Inseal carved up the defence to double the score, number eight Simon Higgins converting.

Again Westbury put pressure on Bradford, who hurriedly kicked the ball out from their 22, which was caught by full-back Nigel Kershaw, who ran it back before offloading neatly Whittingham to score. Higgins again kicked the conversion.

Bradford kicked a penalty but it wasn’t long before Moore scored his second try after prop Daniel Haines had thundered over the try line, but could not ground the ball.

Higgins converted, as he did after Jamie Comley picked the ball from the back of a ruck and took a couple of Bradford players with him over the line.

The second half started well for the hosts when Inseal took a quick throw to centre Dan Gould who, with the defence stretched, danced over the line, Higgins converting.

Winger Nathan Hudd was sent to the bin for foul play and Bradford took advantage with a converted try but Inseal scored his second when the ball was ripped out of a Bradford maul.

After 65 minutes Kershaw scored a scintillating individual try which he nonchalantly converted.

The last try of the match was scored by Hudd, who intercepted a Bradford pass and ran the length of the field to score.
