WESTBURY stayed on the right track in Dorset & Wilts Two North as they edged past their local rivals.

The visitors started the game poorly, allowing Melksham all of the possession in the first 10 minutes and a converted try.

But after the injured Dan Gould was replaced by Jack Brooks, the substitute went on an individual run evading the defence to score Westbury’s first try, converted by Simon Higgins.

Melksham responded well and added a second converted score to lead at half-time, but Westbury started the second half well, with good forward offloading and strong running from the backs, Higgins reducing arrears with a penalty.

Melksham cancelled that out, but stiff words from Westbury captain Lee Moore and coach Chris Bush, now was playing number eight, had the desired effect for Westbury.

Higgins powered over the line before Nigel Kershaw broke through and offloaded to Reece Ball, who sprinted through to score the winning try, converted by Higgins.
