BRADFORD on Avon head coach Dave George reckons last weekend’s victory at Marlborough may have been a ‘lightbulb moment’ for his team.

The visitors followed up their opening Southern Counties South success of the season against Frome by lowering the colours of their county rivals in dreadful conditions at The Common.

Ross Dewar’s magnificent solo try, converted by Josh Felix, plus a further Felix penalty gave Bradford a 10-0 advantage before Marlborough restored parity with unconverted tries from Jamie Laing and Myles Richards before half time.

Two further Felix penalties, sandwiching a Laing effort for the home side, proved enough to secured the away side the four points after the break but it was the manner of victory that impressed George.

“We dogged it out and I think the players realised that we can win like that, rather than having to do it by throwing it around all the time,’’ said George.

“The conditions were awful but our scrum was so dominant and the front row were magnificent. There were a lot of scrums because the lineouts were a total lottery, so that probably worked in our favour.

“Both sides defended well, but I think some of our young lads are starting to find their feet and are realising they can compete.

“Marlborough were a bit of an unknown for us, but they have beaten Devizes recently so we were thinking we were in for a hell of a game.

“We’ve got a fairly big squad now and it’s a good group of lads that we’ve got coming through, so it’s all looking quite positive
