THE welfare of the players is vital when it comes to re-arranging last weekend’s postponed European Rugby Champions Cup tie with Toulon says Bath first team coach Toby Booth.

Bath had travel to France but were one of five fixtures to be called off following the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night.

Now a busy schedule is creating a dilemma for when the game will be re-scheduled for and Booth wants to ensure that the health of the players is top in the considerations.

“What we experienced, a little bit of discomfort, was nothing compared to the main event,” he told the Wiltshire Times.

“We’re resilient as people and sportsmen and you just feel for the real people that matter and we will put our best foot forward from this point onwards.

“We’re waiting to see what the powers that be come up with from a rearranged game point of view.

“We have spoken about it and Bruce Craig (Bath owner) is massively up for a game, as he put it, that he has been waiting to play for three years against the European champions.

“We’re looking forward to going down there and playing but the difficulty of it is the player welfare and the integrity of the competition.

“Playing very intensive games in very short periods of time is not the best for anyone.

“Playing more than one game a week is very tough.”

This week Welsh lock Luke Charteris has been linked with a move to the Rec, with some reports saying that the 32-year-old, who is out of contract with Racing 92 at the end of the season, has agreed to a two-year deal.

However, Booth would not be drawn on the move but said that they are always looking to make their side stronger.

“There is nothing to report from our point of view,” he added.

“We have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks. Some have been correct and some are not.

“From that point of view we will announce it as and when these kind of things are finalised.

“One thing I would add to it is that we are trying to recruit the best squad we can both in season and in seasons going forward.”
