TROWBRIDGE RFC have appointed Dan Jeffries as their new head coach.

Jeffries arrives at Doric Park after two hugely-successful seasons at Salisbury, where he oversaw back-to-back promotions, including their rise to National Three level rugby.

The former Corsham RFC coach fills the void left by former Bath and England forward Steve Ojomoh, who stepped down at the end of last season after the club were demoted back to Southern Counties South.

Jefferies, whose first league match is expected to be a derby clash with Devizes in Southern Counties South on September 10, said: “Work and family commitments have meant that I could not continue with Salisbury in National Three next season, therefore I have been looking for the opportunity to continue coaching in local rugby”.

"Trowbridge are a quality club, with the best facilities and infrastructure in the county. The squad is well established and I believe that we have an opportunity to enable this squad and the club as a whole to achieve its potential.

"Winning is a culture and a habit and I know we can bring that habit back to the club."

Ojomoh stepped down after overseeing a hugely successful four seasons at the club, which included winning the RFU Intermediate Cup at Twickenham in May 2014, promotion to South West One East and a move from Green Lane to their new Doric Park base.

A number of Trowbridge players retired at the end of the season just gone, with one of Jeffries first tasks to get the gaps filled.

“We need to look to the club's strong youth set-up with a view to bringing through and developing some of the talent that is waiting in the wings,'' he added.

"In addition I will also look at the opportunity to bring in two or three experienced players just to strengthen the spine of the team and to also help guide and develop the youth players”.

Trowbridge also hope to broaden the senior coaching team of Jeffries, the new chief adding: “As you would expect since accepting the role it’s been quite busy with plenty to do.

"I have been speaking to a number of people with regards to potentially coaching and playing at the club.

"As always in the off-season people are reviewing their positions and deciding on their plans for the new season so there is plenty of talking going on but as yet no commitments.

"I have also been spending a fair bit of time just getting to know the club personalities and its inner working.”

For any prospective players interested in playing for the club, pre-season starts with a players' meeting and skittles evening on Wednesday, June 22, at 7.30 pm with the first training session on the first Tuesday in July at 7pm.
