TROWBRIDGE chief Dan Jeffries plans to continue to try and get his team shooting out of the blocks with more explosiveness.

The Doric Park outfit beat North Dorset 46-9 in Southern Counties South last weekend, seven days after triumphing over Devizes in the Dorset & Wilts Cup, but in both matches, Jeffries believes that his troops have started too slowly.

After falling behind to North Dorset, Trowbridge roared to a comfortable victory thanks to two tries from George Leat and further scores from Shai Bonnick, Max Day and Ashley Chalk, with Leat making up the remainder of his team’s total with the boot.

“Again, we started a bit slowly and they got themselves ahead with a penalty,” said Jeffries.

“It was better than the previous weekend but it was a bit disappointing. We’ve spoken in training about why we’re starting so slowly and what we can do to put that right.

“What we want to be able to do is control the flow of games more from the start, so that’s something that we’re going to look for, but it was still a good result against North Dorset, who are a solid mid-table team.

“Next weekend, we’ve got Sherborne away and we’re going to have to be ready to be at our best right from the start of that game.

“It’s a pretty tough place to go. They’re a team that always finish in the top four or five of the table and we’re going to have to be ready for a difficult game.”

Trowbridge are currently fourth in the table while tomorrow’s opponents Sherborne are sixth.
