TROWBRIDGE head coach Dan Jeffries says there is no time for his side to feel sorry for themselves after being shut out by Sherborne.

The 31-0 loss in Dorset was Trowbridge’s third of the campaign and the scoreline came as a shock to many, especially Jeffries.

Despite keeping the scores level for the first half an hour, the game unravelled for the visitors shortly before the interval and there was no way of coming back when they conceded for the third time after the break.

“I think that is what hit us, we just weren’t in the right frame of mind,” said Jeffries, on reflection.

“We went down there expecting it to be a nice fixture. They were up for it, it was half term and they were bolstered a little bit.

“They played at a good intensity but after 30 minutes, it was 0-0 and we had probably had the best of the play, we just hadn’t converted anything.

“They were down to 14 men with a yellow card and we just didn’t take advantage of it.

“They came back with their 15 and just went hard at it and played at an intensity that we weren’t quite ready for and the game just got away from us.

“There was a period just before half time when they scored two tries a little bit against the run of play- one was an interception and the other was off a kick to nothing.

“Suddenly we went into half time 14 points down and based on how well we controlled the rest of the game, I thought we would get right back in it.

“They started quickly and scored another try and it took a big shot out of the boys and we weren’t able to bounce back then.”

Jeffries will be looking for an immediate response this weekend as his side host bottom-of-the-league Frome.

Trowbridge should also be bolstered by the return of back row Dan Smith and vice-captain Dave Finley.

“We’re still fourth in the league and looking at a top four finish and pushing towards though promotion places would be brilliant,” added Jeffries.

“We’ve got a good run of fixtures now where we can hope to build some good momentum, a cup final in two weeks and plenty of buzz towards that.

“We will learn from the last two weeks and hopefully this will be a big wake-up call for the boys.”
