WESTBURY Ladies made it a magnificent seven in South West Two North as they stayed on the heels of leaders Devizes with a 14-10 win over third-placed Chew Valley.

Chew arrived on a five-game winning streak and took the lead with an unconverted try after a Westbury turnover.

But Westbury, who had inflicted a first defeat on Devizes a week previously, responded when the ball was worked to winger Vicky Stanley who sprinted clear for her seventh league try of the season, Lana Plummer converting.

Westbury began to build the phases with the forwards carrying well and the ball was worked to centre Jess Wells, who ghosted through the defence and sprinted 40 metres to touch down, duly converting her own score.

Not to be outdone, Chew came straight back and added a second converted try to cut the gap to four points.

Both sides attacked after the break but were unable to break through, the Westbury back row of Carrie Needham, Jane Brown and Wendy Baker-Mitchell in fine form.
