CORSHAM can clinch the Dorset & Wilts One North title this weekend after overturning a half-time deficit to defeat Melksham 24-10 at Oakfields on Saturday.

The champions-elect stretched their flawless winning record to 19 games this season as Ben Russell crossed for a brace of tries and Lewis Jones and Jack Beazer also touched down, Kalif Barnes adding two conversions.

Melksham led 10-5 at half-time but Corsham dominated the second half to score three tries and take the bonus-point success.

The home side were first on the board with Charlie Radcliffe carrying over from a quick tap and go, fly-half Callum Hurn adding the extras and later adding a penalty before the break.

Corsham head coach Tim Draper, whose side host nearest challengers Warminster this weekend, said: "Playing into a very strong wind in the first half we were too loose and made a lot of errors which Melksham took advantage of.

"We tightened up our attacking play in the second half, used the conditions well, created and finished some good scoring opportunities.''

Warminster headed into this weekend's top-two battle on the back of an uninspiring 24-19 success over Chippenham 2nd.

Behind to an early penalty, the home side responded as number eight Laisiasa Vinakadina touched down before, after another successful Chippenham kick, flanker Dean Priestman set up Rupeni Rokoduguni for a 10-6 half-time lead.

Two more Chippenham penalties took them back in front at the start of the second period before Rokoduguni bagged a second try when sprinting in from halfway after finding a gap in the defence, scrum-half Haydn Tryhorn slotting the conversion.

Despite losing Connor McPherson to a yellow card, Warminster bagged the bonus point as Rokoduguni threw a dummy and glided in under the posts for a converted try, Chippenham responding with their own seven-pointer before the final whistle.

Bradford on Avon head coach Dave George reckoned his side's emphatic performance had been coming as they went back up to third by administering an 89-8 hammering to Frome 2nd at Ashley Road.

Oli Bilton and Fin Dewar each crossed for a hat-trick of tries, while there were braces for Andrew Twinney, Vaughan Conybear and Alex Burns.

Harry Linge, Jonny Bates and Ieuan Osborne also crossed, while Will Slark booted seven conversions.

George said: "It's been coming for a while and it was probably one of those days where it all clicked.

"We also owed them from our defeat at their place (7-5 in November), so there was a bit of hunger there.''
