CORSHAM'S Dorset & Wilts One North title celebrations were forced to go on hold as second-placed Warminster ended the leaders 100 per cent record on Saturday.

The Lacock Road side remain 10 points clear of their nearest rivals, with a bonus point from this weekend's trip to Bradford on Avon being enough to wrap up the silverware.

But head coach Tim Draper was disappointed to see his side lose for the first time in 20 league matches as the amber and blues visitors secured a 31-24 triumph.

Draper said: "It was a really close game against the strongest opposition we have faced all season, including the Southern Counties teams we have played.

"It could have gone either way but a couple of breakaway tries from them made the difference.

"It was disappointing to lose but two points gained leave us needing one point from two remaining games to secure the league title.''

Warminster's tries came from Isoa Vulagirua, Rupeni Rokoduguni, who crossed twice, Dan Woods and Laisiasa Vinakadina.

Corsham secured try and losing bonus points courtesy of four tries from Ben Russell, Lewis Jones, Tim Minty and Alex Twigg, while Kalif Barnes landed two conversions.

Bradford on Avon head coach Dave George admits his side are looking forward to the visit of Corsham this weekend as they stayed third with a 17-11 success at Chippenham 2nd.

The visitors were behind for most of the match until Fin Dewar and Alex Burns scored in the final 10 minutes to turn the contest around.

Chippenham had led 8-5 at the interval courtesy of a try and penalty - left wing Vaughan Conybear crossing for Bradford - and another Chippenham penalty stretched their advantage before the late fireworks.

George said: "We kept the pressure on and we knew if we did that, then it would come, but it was a tough game.

"It (the Corsham visit) will be an interesting game. They've really wrapped up the league anyway but the boys felt like they gave them a good game at their place (a 22-5 defeat for Bradford in December).

"Corsham deserved that win, but I think we felt like we could match them.''

Melksham went level on points with Bradford on Avon as they put Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd to the sword 52-17.

The visitors struck first with a converted try but Melksham retaliated with a strong run through from centre Phil Stone, who was halted before the line before the ball was sent wide for winger Ben Brown to score in the corner.

The home team increased their tally with a breakaway run from prop Rob Escott, fly-half Callum Hurn adding the extras.

Controlling proceedings, Melksham moved into striking distance again with a catch and drive from a line out, hooker Aaron Brailey scoring and Hurn adding the conversion.

The bonus-point try came from Stone as he stepped defenders to score with Hurn converting before Bassett hit back with a score of their own.

The restart brought Melksham pressure again, Dave Dyke powering in to score and Hurn adding the conversion.

Bassett responded but, from the restart Melksham stepped up a gear, the dominant scrummaging providing the platform for Brown to get his brace.

Nick Suter powered in from 15 metres out and the elusive Callum Gillard broke through defenders for the third of three tries in the last quarter, Hurn adding all three conversions.
