WESTBURY ran in an impressive eight tries as they romped to a convincing victory away at Colerne.

There was little to choose between the sides over the opening 20 minutes until Westbury centre Logan Smith drove up the middle to score the opening try.

Full-back, Nick Taylor, in his first start for the first XV, followed over the whitewash soon afterwards after the ball was shipped down the back-line for a converted try.

Colerne pulled a try back after taking a quick tap penalty to cut Westbury’s lead to 12-7 at half-time.

Westbury’s forwards soon began to dominate after the restart and fly-half Chris Vaughan’s excellent positional kicking saw pressure gradually applied to the Colerne defence. The visitors soon capitalised after a scrum as lock Marcus Holstead crossed for a converted try.

Vaughan’s clever change of direction then wrong-footed the defence and put Smith over for his second score.

The next try was down to the forwards as they drove Colerne back over their line from a 5m scrum flanker Ferran Adams to touch down.

Smith was soon back on the scoresheet, completing his hat-trick with a converted try after the ball was moved quickly following a tap penalty.

Colerne continued to look dangerous themselves and their persistence was rewarded with a converted try.

That stung the visitors back into action and flanker Ryan Knight scored after Westbury had won a scrum deep in the Colerne half., with Vaughan converting.

The final try was scored by Sam Pascoe when a quick tap penalty allowed him to power over in the corner, with Vaughan’s slotted kick seeing Westbury pass the half-century of points.
