Chippenham young guns cruise to victory

Chipping Sodbury Under 14s 0, Chippenham Under 14s 35

CHIPPENHAM gave all their squad members a chance to play in Sunday's friendly and were rewarded with a fine victory.

The game started well for Chippenham and despite conceding the weight advantage in the scrum, they began to work well together as a team and it was apparent that tries would soon follow.

The first try came from Mike Allies, near the posts, in the first ten minutes. The next try came from Nick Kidd in the top corner which was quickly followed by an outstanding run by Bas Parfitt as he scored another try for the visitors in the same corner.

The final try of the first half came from Joe Bodmin who scored just before the referee blew the half-time whistle. At the break, Chippenham had a comfortable 0-20 lead.

The excellent first half score allowed many of the players to be swapped for new players in the Chippenham squad, enabling all to gain some match practice.

The change of players made a big difference to the scrum and in this half Chippenham were certainly a heavier weight of forwards. These changes allowed Ed Suttle to score early in the half, which was soon followed by Allies scoring his second try of the match.

As with the first half, the final try of the half and the match, came just before the final whistle, Austin Strong making a fine run to cross the line for the try.
