Trowbridge's Ashley Chalk high steps his way out of trouble against Dorchester (34486/13)
Trowbridge 73, Dorchester 0
TROWBRIDGE effectively booked their place in South West Two East next season
with Saturday's victory over Dorchester who held the Green Lane side to a
12-12 draw at home in December.
Wootton Bassett, who beat Corsham 20-7, now need to win by 90 points in
their final league match of the season against Trowbridge this coming
Saturday to prevent Trowbridge from being promoted.
Trowbridge were dominant from the start and built up a lead of 37 points in
the first half. No 8 Shane Johnstone almost went over in the first minute
but was held short of the line but from the breakdown the ball was passed to
the left wing and Ashley Chalk went over in the corner.
Soon after Alex Hill went over and Barry Coombs then finished off a move to
score under the posts. Lloyd Davis converted.
Dorchester had an opportunity the get on the score sheet with a penalty but
Adam Jones's attempt from 35 metres fell short.
Trowbridge continued to dominate possession, with the Dorset visitors only
gaining limited possession from the tight scrums. The scoring continued when
Alex Hill scored his second try and Adam Sullivan also forced his way over
in the corner after a strong run down the wing.

Chalk outpaced the Dorchester defence and Davis finished off a slick
Trowbridge move before the break to make the interval score 37-0. The only
flaw was the place kicking but the tries were scored wide out making the
conversions difficult.
After the break the scoring continued and Michael Johnston, who was up in
support throughout the match, scored a try for Davis to convert before Adam
Sullivan powered his way over after being given some space on the right
wing.
Karl Parry scored a try after forcing his way passed several defenders and
Shane Johnstone also scored after beating the visitors' defence for pace.
Davis converted both of these tries before Chalk completed his hat-trick of
tries. The scoring was completed when Alex Hill also completed a hat-trick.
The Trowbridge team were not unduly tested but the Wootton Bassett result at
Corsham meant that the Green Lane side are 60 points better off as a result
of the weekend's results.
They will travel to Wootton Bassett on Saturday in good spirit in their
quest to extinguish the remote chances the Stoneover Lane club have of
overhauling them.
