Michael Johnston leads a charge for Trowbridge during the 73-0 win over Dorchester (34486/10)
THEY may not know where they will be playing next season, but Trowbridge are
celebrating after winning a league and cup double, barring a freak result
tomorrow.
Trowbridge won the Dorset and Wiltshire Vase a fortnight ago and all but
sealed the Southern Counties South title with a 73-0 victory at home to
struggling Dorchester on Saturday.
Trowbridge play second-placed Wootton Bassett tomorrow and only need to
avoid defeat by 90 points or more to win the league.
The team can afford to feel confident of sealing the title tomorrow, as the
most points they have conceded this season is 40.
But the club will not be playing South West Two East matches at Green Lane
next season.
The club plan to move to a new stadium at Hilperton in September 2009 but
have to sell Green Lane to pay for the move.

The club have not got a ground for next season, although they have been
approached by several local clubs and have also been in talks with schools.
Club treasurer Mike James said: "A number of clubs have come forward and
offered us facilities. We don't envisage a major problem there."
James said a deal for a ground next season should be concluded by the end of
May, and also said a deal with a developer to buy Green Lane was in the
pipeline.
He said winning two trophies would be a fitting end to the club's tenure at
the ground.
James said: "It would give us a nice little double especially as this could
be our last season at Green Lane.
"We've got a little bit of relief, but you never know what could happen.
You've got to say the wind is probably in our favour.
"I was down the club last Saturday and I was talking to a couple of guys who
played back in the 60s and 70s, and they were saying this is the most
exciting team we've had in the history of the club. The guys have put a lot
of effort in and they have seen the benefits. At the start of the season we
thought we'd be in the top four but we started with a bang and you could
tell there was something special going on."
James is already looking ahead to next season, although not without some
trepidation.
James said: "It's quite frightening because we're thinking about who we're
going to be up against next season. You're coming up against teams who have
got contract players.
"We've spoken to a couple of guys who play for clubs in that league and the
general view is teams are fitter and sharper.
"But we feel we've got a team that could at least hold its own, provided
they all stay, of course, and hopefully we might pick up a few more
players."
