WESTBURY claimed their second win of the season in Dorset & Wilts Two North as Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd were put to the sword 24-14.

After the previous week's narrow defeat to Sutton Benger, the home side started in determined fashion and within three minutes were a try to the good when debutant centre Matt Greatley stormed through to score.

Bassett turned up the pressure and from a five-metre scrum, crashed over the line and converted for a two-point lead.

But Westbury were back in front as clever handling saw full back and captain Nigel Kershaw finish off the move.

Back came Bassett with a well-worked try and conversion but the home side were rewarded with a penalty on 27 minutes and another on the stroke of half time, both converted by fly-half Aaron Vaughan for a two-point interval lead.

For the first half hour of the second period the sides could not be separated until the ball shot out of the back of a scrum and Westbury scrum-half Matt Inseal pounced on the loose ball and ran the length of the field to score.

Vaughan then put the game out of reach when he slotted his third penalty.
