BRADFORD on Avon may have put Devizes 2nd to the sword last weekend but head coach Dave George was most impressed with the professionalism shown by his side as they ran riot.

Hosts Devizes drew first blood but after that early setback, Bradford ran in 13 tries as they roared to a dominant 77-7 victory to keep themselves on the coattails of local rivals Corsham and Warminster.

Leo Robertson led the way with three tries and two conversions, Vaughan Conybear scored a try and three conversions and second-rower Ed Dawson helped himself to a try and a single conversion.

Meanwhile, Andrew Twinney and Harry Linge both helped themselves to a brace of tries, with Jack Rutland, Jonny Bates, Ross Dewar and Tom Culshaw all crossing the line to get in on the act.

Despite such a one-sided affair, George believes that his Bradford team showed plenty of discipline, which will stand them in good stead for further tests this season.

“They scored first and that was the kick up the backside we needed,” said the Bradford chief.

“Devizes competed for a good 45 or 50 minutes before it turned into a bit of a rout.

“When a match is like that, you end up with people getting a bit of white-line fever, but the lads struck to our structures.

“It showed right at the end – Tom Culshaw was clear and could have dotted down himself but Vaughan had supported him and he passed the ball to let him score.

“We also showed some good humility and kept trying to play the right way.

“We know that there we’re going to be harder games – no disrespect to Devizes at all – and sticking to the structures is good preparation for those.”

Elsewhere in Dorset & Wilts One North, Corsham remain top of the pile following a thumping 64-0 victory at Frome 2nd, with the Lacock Road outfit running in 10 tries.

Warminster also racked up a fifth successive victory by winning 52-19 at Supermarine with just 13 players, with prop Matty Dunford dislocating his knee in the warm-up and Malcolm Bryant pulling his calf just five minutes in.

However, short-handed Warminster reigned supreme thanks to a hat-trick from Lai Vinakadina, two from James Pinnell and further scores from Gavin Pratt, coach Emosi Naisaramaki, John McCreadie and Ben Tilley, with Pratt slotting away six conversions.

Melksham triumphed 31-7 away at Swindon, with Phil Stone crossing the line twice and Aaron Brailey scoring a pushover try whilst the rest of their points came from the boot of Callum Hurn.
