DORSET & Wilts U20s claimed a 25-19 success over Hampshire in a warm-up clash at Bournemouth at the weekend.

The twin counties raced into a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter when captain and Hartpury College flanker Hamish Renwick pounced on a loose ball to touch down in the 16th minute, followed three minutes later by Sherborne centre Rhodri Hopkins, who intercepted a stray pass on halfway then sprinted in beneath the posts, with Royal Wootton Bassett fly-half Connor Tomley adding both of the extras.

The visitors rallied but, following a series of forward drives, Brunel Uni hooker Matt Goddard crashed over from close in for Dorset & Wilts' third try of the afternoon.

With half-time beckoning, Hampshire broke clear from the base of a scrum, with the ball eventually ending with left wing Charlie Waite, who touched down.

Chippenham wing forward Sam Graham attracted the wrath of referee Ritchie Denver and was sin-binned following a high tackle but the hosts led 19-5 at the break.

Starting the second period a man down, the twin counties were on the back foot and Hampshire responded with a converted score.

Restored to full-strength, Hopkins landed a penalty for the home side, then kicked a second to stretch the advantage.

As the contest moved into added time, Cardiff Uni flanker Seb Harold grabbed a try for the visitors, with Lewis converting.

Dorset & Wilts, who also included Swindon back row Maleli Naiova and Bassett prop Jesse Outlaw, meet Somerset in their RFU County Championship U20s opener on February 4.
