CLARENDON Academy's Year Eight rugby team are closing in on an unbeaten season after sweeping all before them so far this term.

The Trowbridge's school's boys' team have played 13 games to date, amassing 500 points and conceding just 45, while winning a Mid-Wilts tournament at Chippenham's Hardenhuish School.

The group have battled through fixtures against the likes of Devizes, St Laurence, Melksham, Hardenhuish, Sheldon, St Augustine's and also triumphed in an event run by the 'Mad Dog' Academy, a rugby programme designed and overseen by former England captain Lewis Moody, in Melksham, scoring 30 tries and conceding just three.

At last week's Mid-Wilts event, they beat Hardenhuish B 75-0 and Corsham A 45-0 to top their group, then saw off Bradford on Avon's St Laurence 20-5, drew 5-5 with Hardenhuish A and beat Malmesbury 20-10 to triumph

Clarendon PE teacher Joseph Harford said: "The boys themselves deserve all the success they get. not only for the fact that they are immensely talented, but also because their work ethic, team spirit and positivity are truly exemplary.

"We are also intending on taking the group up to Gloucester to play against a high-achieving private school to further push our development as a group.''
