CHIPPENHAM'S U15s kicked off their Wiltshire Cup campaign with a comprehensive win over Swindon.

The first try came within five minutes, when Swindon fumbled the ball and Chippenham were awarded a scrum just over the halfway line.

The ball was passed straight out to the backline and, decisive passing, found Ian Jenkins on the wing who sprinted up the touchline to score in the corner. Harry Taylor punched an impressive conversion through the posts.

The second came shortly afterwards when they were awarded a scrum on the halfway line and the ball cleared.

Some tremendous interplay between the backs saw the ball again out to Jenkins.

With Swindon backtracking, Jenkins put in a superb pass to full-back DanTreacy who had come through in support to score the try again in the corner. Once more Taylor slotted the conversion.

There then followed a series of rucks and mauls which saw Chippenham move the ball and hold it firmly in the Swindon 5m area. Swindon defended hard against the onslaught, but eventually Greg Palmer scooped up the ball and drove over for the third try of the morning.

Chippenham’s fourth came from a Swindon line-out. The ball was not taken cleanly and Chippenham pounced on the loose ball.

The forwards mauled upfield before RhysBrown came off the back of the pack, up the blindside and round the defence to run the ball in under the posts, offering Taylor a simple conversion to put Chippenham 26 points ahead.

Excellent interplay from forwards and backs opened up the opportunity for Alex Grahame to punch through the defence and add another five points to the total.

Swindon fought back but eventually the ball found Taylor who put in a superb kick upfield to get Chippenham out of trouble.

Chippenham pushed forward once again and the ball was passed out to Jenkins who again linked up beautifully with Treacy who ran in the try.

They then turned over possession at a line-out, with Lewis Tavener snatching up the loose ball and taking it into contact. Scrum-half James Cooke quickly recycled the ball out to Taylor who passed the ball to Tom North who ran through the gap to score to the right of the posts.

Chippenham’s final try of the first half saw second row, Connor Weetman pass to Jenkins to run around the defence, Taylor adding the extras.

Chippenham made wholesale changes at half time, but Treacy and Kalif Barnes took the ball upfield, passing to each other several times whilst weaving through the Swindon defenders, until eventually Barnes took the ball over the line by the corner flag.

Taylor was rewarded for another excellent game at fly-half with a try of his own.

Again good support play from Treacy and Barnes saw the ball taken up to the five metre line and into contact.

From the resultant ruck, good, quick hands from Cooke saw the ball shipped blind to Taylor to take over the line.

With Chippenham now back in full flow, the ball was passed out to North who offloaded to Weetman for Chippenham’s 12th try of the morning and his first for the club.

Another try was added shortly afterwards when Taylor took the ball from the floor and sprinted for the line but was brought down short. However he managed to offload the ball to Ollie Jones who headed for the line before flipping the ball out to North who dived over.

Chippenham’s 13th try of the morning came from Brown who ran through the defence to touch down near the posts, with Taylor adding another two points.

And Tom Dimech offloaded to Will Waddington who sprinted down the line to score the final try, Taylor converting.
