CHIPPENHAM made an outstanding start in their Bristol Combination Cup game.

George Broom grabbed the kick-off and sent number eight Jack Hurring down the wing for the opening try, Owen Waters converting.

Lawrence Taylor barged over from a tapped penalty for the second before Dom Mackenzie’s driving run sucked in the defence and the offload sent Waters on a well-timed burst under the posts for a try he converted.

Broom and Hurring swapped passes to send the former over for the fourth try before wing Oli Waddington’s dart for the line saw him pop the ball to Mackenzie for a score, Waters adding the extras.

Old Reds hit back with their first try, but Mackenzie gathered a loose ball to run in to score before Hurring bagged another restart and sent wing Ben Atkinson over, Waters again converting for a 43-5 half-time lead.

A raft of substitutions and improved Old Reds’ display restricted Chippenham’s second-half scoring to Mackenzie’s crossfield kick that wing Kieron Tillotson gathered and passes to Nick Regan for the try.
