YOUTH RUGBY: Devizes U15 Chippenham U15 28.
1:00pm Tuesday 25th January 2011 in Youth Rugby
CHIPPENHAM got the better of their local rivals in their Wiltshire Cup clash.
After a messy opening passage of play right wing Lewis Clarke showed off his pace and strength to go over for the first try under the posts,m Jack Utton converting to give the visitors the lead. Clarke went close to a second straight afterwards, but Devizes fought their way back into it and number eight broke through the defence to touch down to cut the gap to two points before half time.
Devizes' momentum continued after the break and they took advantage of a three-man overlap to score their second.
Chippenham made a couple of tactical substitutions with Todd Richardson coming on at full-back and Ross Garty at number eight. After a period of open play, fly-half Jack Utton sprinted 50 metres, evading several tacklers to score under the posts before converting his own try.
The Chippenham forwards then began to take control, winning a series of rucks which soon forced a penalty.
A charging run from Ross Garty set up right wing Clarke to make a blistering run down the blindside to score under the posts. Utton converted once again. The forward pressure continued with front row Jack Evans, Kieran Atkin and Jack Prangle winning a number of scrums against the head.
They forced another penalty near the Devizes 22 and a quick tap and go from scrum-half Tom Douglas set Utton free to score again. Devizes fought back with their number eight pulling another try back.
