FIRST-TIME mum Melanie Crosnier said she could not be happier that her labour went to plan after giving birth to her newborn son Xavier at Trowbridge Birthing Centre.

Mrs Crosnier, 30 and her husband Matthieu, 32, who have been married for four years, welcomed their new arrival in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Mrs Crosnier said she only used paracetamol and gas and air during labour and added: “It wasn’t too bad as far as labour goes. It was what we hoped to do and we were pleased that it worked out fine.”

The couple had previously looked into a hypnobirthing course to prepare themselves for the birth.

Throughout the pregnancy, Mrs Crosnier said there were no health complications but she had to adjust to the changes that pregnancy brought; one being her appetite.

She said she surprised at how frequently her cravings changed and added: “At the beginning I want to eat a lot of celery for some reason and I was off chocolate completely but by the end I was eating chocolate by the fistful.”

The pair found out they were having a boy at the 20 week scan and they have been trying to figure out a name that bridges the baby’s French and British backgrounds.

Mrs Crosnier said: “My husband is French and we tried to find a name that would be alright to say in both English and French and we decided on Xavier. I think it is quite a masculine name and it can be shortened which we liked.”

The couple, who were able to go home four hours after welcoming their son, were full of praise of the staff at Trowbridge birthing centre.

Mrs Crosnier said: “The two midwives that we had, Maggie and Miriam, were brilliant and they were really great from coming into right through the labour. I think the whole process was excellent though everything by the staff at the birthing centre.”
