FORMER chairman of Kennet District Council and Devizes Town mayor David Godwin died on May 1, aged 74.
He spent his working life, apart from National Service in the Royal Signals, as a telephone engineer, retiring in 1993. But it was his service over 26 years as a councillor on the borough, town and Kennet district councils which gave him most pleasure and fulfilment.
He was chairman of Kennet District Council from 1992-95 and town mayor in 1974. He also served the people of Devizes and the wider area in numerous other ways, and was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic church.
His funeral will take place today at 11am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, St Joseph's Place, Devizes.
