FORMER RAF nurse Mrs Maureen Sheila Haynes, who worked in the sick bay at RAF Lyneham for many years, has died after a two-year illness.
Her funeral service, held at Kingsdown Crematorium on November 15, included a tribute from the Very Rev Brian Horlock to her courage and to the Prospect Hospice, Macmillan nurses, and her neighbours and friends in Wootton Bassett, for all their care and kindness.
Mrs Haynes, one of a family of six, was born in 1945 near Wolverhampton. She joined the RAF as a nursing assistant, and gained all her professional training in the service. She and her husband Colin met in 1964, when they were both stationed in Cyprus. Romance blossomed and they returned to the UK to be married. After the wedding they completed a further six months in Cyprus. Following several subsequent postings, they completed their service at RAF Lyneham.
They settled in Wootton Bassett.
Mrs Haynes leaves her husband, daughter, son and son-in-law.
